Our first challenge was to create a card following a sketch…..any theme, any colour!

So as it’s the first challenge I must say I was a little nervous, as I’ve never done a sketch challenge before, even had to ask my old friend Google what one was before signing up. But now those nerves are turning to excitement to see what everyone else has made. I spent a few days back and forth with the design; I haven’t made a card in about a year so the brain needed a bit of dusting before I could get into my flow. Its funny how you can start with one design and some how manage to end up with something completely different, this seem to happen a lot when I make cards.

For my design I used basic black for my base and layered it with very vanilla and some DSP from the 6×6 Merry Moments dsp stack. The cute deer is actually from the Home for Christmas DSP pack, I just cut one out, the great thing is there loads of different poses to choose from and it makes that sheet of 12×12 stretch ever further.

The sentiments are from the Flurry of wishes set and to add to the elegance I used a tree from the Festival of Trees bundle and embossed it in gold and punched it with the matching tree punch, I used the luscious Basic Black stitched satin ribbon, its one of those ribbons I love too much to use on just any project, but this card felt like it needed that luscious touch.

Sadly Stampin’ Up! only do silver rhinestones and my project was gold, not to worry as I got to blow the dust off my alcohol markers and colour a few in with a golden tone. The great thing with alcohol markers is they don’t stop the Bling from shining through so it’s a great tip if you’re in need of some matching Bling. Stampin’ Up! don’t have a range of alcohol markers so it was the only thing I needed to use that wasn’t available in the catalogues.

So even though it’s not the card I started to make I really love they way it all came together by accident and how elegant it looks, I’m going to have to make a few more for my special friends this year. Let me know what you think in the comments below or on the social media sites.

Don’t forget to click the links to keep hopping around and see what everyone else has made, the next challenge is in 2 weeks time so be sure to come back for more creations and inspirations.
